The Drunken Moogle

thetadoctorSherlock Holmes and John Watson cocktails

Sherlock
Ingredients:
1 oz. Top Shelf Vodka (We’re talking about Sherlock. Try Grey Goose or Belvedere)
1 1/2 oz Cranberry Juice
1/2 oz Blue Curacao

Directions: Use a chilled stemmed glass. This drink would look smooth in a Martini Glass. Pour the ingredients in the glass in order. When you add the Blue Curacao, you’ll notice the color smoke into purple. Ah, Science. Optional Cherry Garnish, but don’t over do it. The body is just transport.

The game, Mrs. Hudson, is on!

John Watson
Ingredients:
1/2 oz Light Rum
1/2 oz Tequila
1/2 oz Gin
1/2 oz Vodka
1/2 oz Triple Sec
Orange Juice
Orange Wheel

Directions: The Glass doesn’t matter too much, you’re not trying to show off. Try a stein type shown here, or a Collins Glass. Shake the alcoholic ingredients with ice and strain into the glass. Fill with Orange Juice. You’re allowed to feel fancy, Float some Grand Marnier if you’d like. Add Orange Wheel. The idea is to let them think that you’re innocent, then you can unexpectedly kick them in the face.

Now people will definitely talk.

Loading created these drinks for the release of Square-Enix’s game Hitman Absolution.

With a franchise as iconic as Hitman we had plenty to work with and decided we wanted to capture the variety of kill styles and create a set of drinks that took on both the visual style and classic themes of the Hitman series… but first we needed a ‘victim’.

In this case, the victim is a rather delicious Tokyo Ice Tea, a blend of five spirits; Tequila, Gin, Rum, Triple Sec (traditionally you’d have Kiwi but Triple Sec or Cointreau is easier to source) and Absolut vodka (almost a pun) - which represents the fifth instalment in the series of course. The drink is then ‘finished off’ with lemonade and fresh lime.

So having settled on the unlucky target, we went to our long-suffering photographer Will (check out his blog here) and explained the multiple ways in which we would like to assassinate our beverage. After recovering from this initial confusion about the idea, he took to the idea with aplomb and we found four potential methods of execution.

The studio was an interesting place to be that day, with glasses of booze meeting air rifles and samurai swords… it was messy - but an awful lot of fun. Seven glasses lost their lives that day for a total of four final images, which although a fairly good ratio, clearly wouldn’t be seen as acceptable by a certain bar-oded agent…

To really draw attention to the (borderline offensively) bad ‘Abosolut’ semi-pun, we used different flavours of the Swedish spirit for each image.

Jack Ryan’s Plasmids (Bioshock shots)
Ingredients:1 part Triple Sec2 parts Blue Curacao2 parts Sour Apple Pucker
Directions: Mix the ingredients into a bottle and upgrade at your leisure. If you don’t want to commit to creating a whole bottle, the 1:2:2 ratio will work for single shots as well. Note: Blue Curacao is essentially colored Triple Sec. The reason the recipe calls for Triple Sec is to prevent the color from being too dark.
With a little creativity, Michael Stewart made his own bottle to store his plasmids. Stewart said that he bought an oil bottle with a pourer from Walmart and affixed the label using sticker paper from Office Depot. The label for Jack Ryan’s is a shirt design, sold at Split Reason.
