The 2013 E3 Drinking Game

Do you hear that? That low rumble growing ever stronger in the distance? That’s the collective excitement of gamers as they all board the hype train to the future of gaming. That’s right, it’s E3 week again! In the next few days the internet will be full of gaming news, trailers, delight, and probably a bit of disappointment. It’s hard not to have a good time when you’re hanging out with friends and watching the press conferences. We’ve put together a drinking game of some of our hopes, fears, and expectations of the presentations. Gather your nerd pals, some beer, liquor, and get ready for a fun week! 

Rules for all presentations:
-If a character uses a bow. Bows are so last year. = 1 sip
-A sequel game is announced = 1 sip
-Exclusive DLC or Content for a multi-platform game = 1 sip
-Dance or Music Presentation = 1 sip
-A non gaming-related celebrity makes an appearance = 1 sip
-Half Life 3 = 1 shot
-A game that was being developed for the current generation gets pushed to the next generation = 1 shot

Optional Hard Mode: Everyone playing choose a buzzword or phrase. When it is said, take a sip.

Microsoft (Monday, 9:30 am PDT) - Watch it here
-You hear news that makes you NOT want the console = 1 sip
-Every non-game announcement made = 1 sip
-Call of Duty presentation boasting about new technologies like Dog snouts and Fish AI = 1 sip
-An Xbox One exclusive is announced = 1 sip
-Buying and selling used games, rentals, or trading games is not mentioned at all = 1 shot
-You get frustrated enough that you switch over to watching Apple’s WWDC = 1 shot

EA (Monday 1:00 pm PDT) - Watch it here
-For every sports or shooter game shown = 1 sip
-Talk about Sim City 5 = 1 sip
-Every time magic happens in the Dragon Age trailer = 1 sip
-New Star Wars game = 1 shot
-EA announces they’ve bought a company you love = 1 shot

Ubisoft (Monday, 3:00 pm PDT) - Watch it here
-A ship is destroyed or an especially brutal kill is made in the Assassin’s Creed 4 trailer = 1 sip
-Every time the player hacks something in Watch Dogs
-Coop Gameplay with the Wii U pad for Rayman = 1 sip
-Beyond Good and Evil 2 finally makes an appearance = 1 shot 
-Prince of Persia 2008… 2 = 1 shot

Sony (Monday, 6:00 pm PDT) - Watch it here
-Social Integration and Share Button talk = 1 sip
-If the physical console turns out to be ugly = 1 sip
-Good use of the controller’s touch pad = 1 sip
-Showing off the console’s power with physics = 1 sip
-No information about The Last Guardian (again) = 1 shot
-No information about Final Fantasy Versus XIII (again) = 1 shot
-If Sony announces they’re taking stance similar to Microsoft’s in terms of used games = 1 shot

Nintendo (Tuesday, 7:00 am PDT) - Watch it here
-This year Nintendo is opting out of a big E3 press conference, but will still have a Nintendo Direct presentation = 1 sip to acknowledge the passing of an era
-Miyamoto shows up with a prop like a toy Pikman or Master Sword = 1 sip
-Reggie appears = 1 sip (let people know your body is ready)
-A third party game that you don’t care about is shown = 1 sip
-New Pokemon Snap on Wii U = 1 shot
-A Pokemon MMO = 1 shot

The Big E3 2012 Party List: Parties, Events, Fundraisers, and More

E3 isn’t all waiting in line and press conferences! Each year there’s always a slew of fun events around the city, put on by gaming companies. Games, geek, and beer blog, SideQuesting, has put together a list of all the parties happening throughout the week so you can plan your E3 night life accordingly. These cocktails, themed after Microsoft’s newest installation of the Halo franchise, were reportedly served at a Halo 4 E3 event last night in Los Angeles.  

E3 2012 Drinking Game

Get ready, gamers! It’s that magical time of the year when dreams can be made and hopes can be destroyed. E3 is upon us and the world is watching in excitement to see what the future holds for video games. While a lucky bunch will actually be able to attend the expo, most of us will be sitting at home, taking in the action from behind a screen. What better way to celebrate announcements (or grieve) than with a few buddies and drinks? The Drunken Moogle has created a drinking game, an updated version of Pixelitis’s 2011 E3 Drinking Game from last year, for those of you looking to pregame a bit before those big E3 parties. Grab some buddies and drinks and get ready for a fun week! For the press conference times and links to livestreams, check out the schedule that Video Game Nostalgia posted.

Microsoft
Take a sip:

• An obvious actor parent and child enjoy a game together
• Every time a game that uses Kinect is announced
• When Microsoft explains why Kinect is the future for games and media
• If a non-gaming aspect of Xbox Live is talked about
• For every exceptionally awesome kill in the new Gears of War and Halo games

Finish your drink if:

• A new console or portable is announced
• Duke Nukem Forever 2

EA
Take a sip:

• If the ending to Mass Effect 3 is brought up
• For each new sports game announced
• Every time you think “Crysis 3 looks REALLY pretty!”
• A Star wars game that doesn’t take place between episodes 4 and 6 is announced
• Stats about Star Wars: The Old Republic are given

Finish your drink if:

• You jump during the Dead Space 3 presentation
• A partnership between EA and a company you like is announced

Ubisoft
Take a sip:

• If someone comments that (or you think) a Rayman game looks gorgeous 
• Every time a game with touch controls is announced
• A free to play game is announced
• Every time there is an exceptionally awesome kill in Assassin’s Creed III

Finish your drink if:

• Beyond Good and Evil 2 isn’t mentioned (again)
• A new Prince of Persia game is announced

Sony
Take a sip:

• If Sony apologizes for anything
• For every HD remake announced
• If either Final Fantasy Versus XIII or The Last Gaurdian is a no show or is said to launch in 2013
• If somebody you’re watching with makes a comment on how Playstation All-Stars looks like Smash Bros (or you happen to think it)
• If a portable version of a console game is announced for PSVita
• For every exceptionally awesome kill in God of War Ascension

Finish your drink if:

• A new console, portable, or thinner version of a current system is announced
• It’s Riiiiiiiidge Racer!

Nintendo
Take a sip:

• Every time Reggie makes a long pause
• When statistics, charts, or graphs are shared
• If a strange gaming peripheral is shown
• If the Wii U tablet controller is placed on the ground
• If Miyamoto shows up
• Drink again if he came with awesome props

Finish your drink if:

• A 3DS redesign is announced
• The Metroid and Star Fox mash-up game happens to be real

For All Press Conferences
Take a sip each time:

• A sequel is announced
• A remake is announced
• A technical error occurs
• Someone looks silly onstage using motion control
• A celebrity makes an appearance

Finish your drink if:

• Sega announces a new console
• Half Life 2: Episode 3 or Half Life 3 is announced
• Hideo Kojima announces that he will make an announcement

Nukem (Duke Nukem Forever Cocktail)

Ingredients:
1 glass Mello Yellow
1 shot vodka
1 splash spiced rum
1 splash moonshine (or any other high proof liquor) 

Directions: Mix the first three ingredients and pour into a glass.  Float your moonshine on top (we used moonshine because it’s the closest thing to, you know, nuclear waste or gasoline.  You can buy “moonshine” from most liquor stores, but any high proof alcohol will do).  Nuke that ‘splody barrel and ignite the moonshine.  Enjoy the flames, then extinguish and serve.
